Custom Order Policies
A custom commission is a collaborative process, and we want it to feel thoughtful and straightforward from the beginning. The details of each piece will vary, but the structure below helps keep the process clear as the design develops.
How does a custom commission begin?
Custom work begins with a conversation about the piece you have in mind, including design direction, materials, sizing, and any existing jewelry or stones that may be part of the project.
Once the direction is established, we’ll provide the next steps for moving the design into production.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin a custom commission.
The remaining balance is due when the piece is complete and before it is delivered or picked up.
Can I make changes to the design?
Custom commissions include one design revision as part of the process.
Additional revisions are possible if needed and may affect both the cost and timeline of the project.
Once the final design has been approved and the piece has moved into casting or fabrication, further design changes may no longer be possible.
How long does a custom commission take?
Timing depends on the complexity of the piece, the materials involved, and the design process.
We’ll give you an estimated timeline once the project is defined and will let you know if revisions or other changes are likely to affect that schedule.
Can I cancel a custom commission?
Because custom work is created specifically for you, the initial 50% deposit is non-refundable.
Once the final design has been approved and production has begun, the commission is considered committed and cannot be canceled for a refund.
When is final payment due?
The remaining 50% balance is due upon completion, before the finished piece is delivered or picked up.
What if I have jewelry or materials I’d like to use toward a custom piece?
In some cases, existing jewelry or precious metal can be incorporated into the process or applied toward a new piece.
Because each project is different, the studio will review the materials first and explain what is possible before work begins. For more information about refining and credit for existing precious metal, please see our Materials Credit information.
